Drag Racing: The Art, Science
and Emotion of Automotive Performance

One of the most thrilling and intense forms of motorsports is drag racing. The sport consists of two people driving their vehicles down a straight-line quarter-mile or eighth-mile two-lane track attempting to reach the finish line first. Drag racing has unlimited fascinating aspects. The on-track action can be spectacular, the work in the pits engaging, the vehicle detail magnificent, and the people intriguing. Fred Noer has been interested in drag racing since the late 1950s. In 1987 he started contributing to drag racing publications. Since then his articles and photographs have appeared in:

Chicagoland High Performance Gearhead News (2005-06): Features about people, vehicles, and businesses.

Drag Racing Action (2004-06): Features about people and their vehicles competing in National Hot Rod Association racing series.

Fastest Street Car (2003): Results articles about Xtreme Street and Pro Stock categories of the Pro-Edelbrock Drag Racing Series.

Drag Review (2002): Articles covering results of International Hot Rod Association national and divisional events and national-event previews.

Inside Motorsports (1998-2001): Feature articles, photographs, and column.

Performance Racing Industry (1995-2000): Feature articles.

Drag Racing Monthly (1995-99): Features and photos about drag racers, events, and organizations.

National Dragster (1992-98): Feature articles and photographs about broad range of subjects in all NHRA eliminators.

Genoa City Progress (July-November 1990, April 1992): Editing, writing, reporting, photography, and layout for six editions of tab-sized publication that advocated construction of a drag strip in southeastern Wisconsin. The publication was key to the passage of community referendum favoring track.

United Racer (March-May 1987): Wrote articles about national events. Also did typesetting, layout, photography, photo editing, and copyediting.
